The Square Mile A Tourists Paradise

If you are planning a visit to the UK’s capital city, then you need to know the best places to stay.  In general, tourists tend to prefer staying in hotels in London city centre – those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere to retreat to at the end of the day, may prefer a quieter hotel in one of the many London suburbs.

When looking for hotels in London city centre, bear in mind that this area of London has several names including ‘The City’, and the ‘Square Mile’.  Therefore, if looking online, use each of these terms in order to find the best deals.

The Square Mile is a relatively small space located within the boundaries of Greater London.  It makes a great place to visit for any tourists searching for a taste of all things British.  There are plenty of things to do, and there is always a party, an exhibition, or an art gallery to visit.  Moreover, this part of the UK is steeped in history, from St Paul’s Cathedral, to the London Wall; many of England’s most prominent historic sites are located in this small area of London.  The Square Mile, in fact, is only 1.12 square miles, or if you are arriving from Europe, 2.90 square kilometres – very small indeed.

There are many hotels from which to choose, some offering affordable luxury, such as the Tower Hill Hotel, others offering luxury at some truly astronomical prices, some of the more expensive hotels begin at around £350, which goes well beyond the budget of the average traveller.

Given the areas central location, there are many things to see and do in and around the area.  For instance, the Ceremony of the Keys is a must see event.  This takes place each evening at the Tower of London.  A 700-year-old tradition that makes a public spectacle of locking the doors to the Tower.  It is essential that the doors be locked every night, as the Tower of London is home to the Crown

Jewels – jewels that belong to the Royal Family, which are valued at millions and millions of pounds.  This is a quintessentially British trandition, which encompasses the love the country holds for the Royal family, and which is always a popular attraction for tourists.

For those of you who wish to exercise the cerebral muscles, then the Museum of London is certainly worth a visit.  With many of the country’s most historical documents and relics contained within, this is a true lesson in British history, dating from the Roman conquests to the present day.

Those who love architecture will be drawn to St Paul’s Cathedral, this is a paying attraction, but well worth a view.  Many consider St Paul’s Cathedral the defining work of Sir Christopher Wren, it is over 300 years old, but the quality of the materials and the magnificence of the architecture are testament to the exquisite work undertaken by Sir Christopher Wren.  Indeed, the world’s architectural industry credits Sir Christopher Wren with the general structural design of the Square Mile, the wide streets, the opulent buildings; they are his life’s work.  Tourists who are interested in seeing this first hand should stay at the Hotel Indigo London, which has a prime location within the Square Mile.
